Peter Ashton Lyon

Peter Ashton Lyon, FSMPS, Assoc. AIA, serves as a Trustee on the Board of Trustees of the SMPS Foundation. Peter has worked in the A/E/C industry since 1977.  He entered the industry as a land planner and moved into marketing in 1980.  Over the last 30 years Peter has provided marketing and business development management for virtually all design disciplines and several specialized services.  He is currently an Associate and Business Development Manager for Flad Architects Southeast Region. 

Peter joined SMPS in 1980 and has been an active member on a national, regional and local level for the past 30 years. He was designated a Fellow in SMPS in 1992.  His involvement at the National level includes: Florida Regional Director-National Board of Directors; National Secretary;   Certification Exam developer; Exam Reviewer for the original National Certification Program; Certification Task Force member to create a comprehensive National exam for certification of marketing professionals; National Exam Curriculum Committee member; Striving for Excellence-Committee member; Juror on the National Fellows Jury; Fellows Delegate on the National Board of Directors; and currently as Trustee, National Foundation Board of Trustees.  On a regional level, Peter chaired two Southeast Regional Conference Committees-1985 in Atlanta entitled: “Foreign Investment in the Southeast, Potentials for Architectural/ Engineering Services and 1989 in Orlando entitled: “Initiative: The Common Denominator”.  On the Chapter level, Peter has served on numerous committees and held Board positions in both the Atlanta and the Central Florida Chapters. He served as President of the Atlanta Chapter 1984-1985.  Peter has also won national and chapter communication awards for print pieces-brochures, special events, holiday card and newsletters.  Peter was awarded SMPS Central Florida Chapter “Member of the Year” in 1989 and the SMPS Atlanta Chapter’s “Marketer of the Year” in 2004.

Peter is also involved in the leadership of industry organizations. He currently serves as Chairman of the QBS Georgia Steering Committee and Director of Advocacy on the AIA Georgia Board of Directors.  He is a past president of the Construction Management Association of American-South Atlantic Chapter. He also served as the Director of Communications (2003) and Director of Education (2004) on the AIA Georgia Board of Directors.
