The CPSM distinction is quickly becoming a valuable (and NECESSARY) credential in our industry. Join us in learning everything you need to know about becoming a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM). This University will offer an overview of the CPSM program – what it is, who it applies to, and the value it offers to both individuals and the firms they work for. We will cover what is included in the exam and how best to prepare for testing. Additionally, CPSM panelists will share their experiences and answer questions about how earning the CPSM credential has benefited them professionally. This session is sure to be informative to anyone seeking a better understanding of the CPSM program.
Moderator:
Kevin Hebblethwaite, CPSM earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, and is a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) through the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS). He is a past president of SMPS Atlanta and is chair of the 2007 Presidents’ Leadership Symposium. He has over 12 years experience in marketing and business development for technology-centric companies. He joined EDI in 1998 as a business development representative. He has also served as Director of Client Development and was named president in April, 2005. EDI, Ltd. is a technology consulting and design firm focused on the built environment. The firm offers design and advisory services for technology, security, and audio-visual systems that help clients maximize their investment in technology. Our clients include architects, program managers, developers, hospitals, corporations, academic institutions, and government agencies throughout the United States.
Panelists:
Robert W. Beavers, CPSM has been in the A/E/C industry for over forty years. He has a degree in “Visual Communications / Radio and Television” earned in 1972. He has been President of two major industrial process control engineering and construction firms and President of his own business development firm. He is presently a Senior Business Development Manager for Merrick & Company in their Atlanta office. Bob has been an active member of SMPS since 1994, including serving on the SMPS Board for two years as Program Chairman and President-Elect and was the President of the Georgia Chapter in 1998. His present position takes him throughout the southeast representing Merrick & Company to military and government clients.

Kim Thompkins, CPSM, is an Associate and Marketing Manager with Stevens & Wilkinson Stang & Newdow, Inc. (SWSN). SWSN is a 75-person, architecture, engineering and interior design firm in downtown Atlanta. Kim has over 15 years of marketing experience in the A/E/I industry. Most recently, Kim served as the CPSM Study Group Leader for the 2006-2007 sessions. Kim received her Certified Professional Services Marketer designation from SMPS in August 2005.

Shivana Waterman, CPSM has been an active member of SMPS for over 5 years. In that time, she has served on various committees, chaired events and was elected to the local board. Building momentum for the local CPSM study program, Shivana coordinated the study efforts in 2004 leading to the highest passing rate of any Chapter to that point and additionally, mentored the subsequent study groups. Serving as the Director of Business Development for Carlock Copeland, Shivana has successfully transitioned her marketing, strategic planning and business development experience of professional services into the legal field.
